Nutter Elects Four New Partners to its Intellectual Property, Litigation, and Real Estate Practices

BOSTON – Nutter announced that Matthew J. Connolly, Brian K. Lee, Derek Roller, and Matthew H. Snell have been elected partners, effective January 1, 2018.

Matthew J. Connolly is a partner in Nutter’s Litigation Department, where he assists individuals and companies with a variety of litigation matters, especially in complex business disputes, regulatory proceedings, and white collar defense and investigations. A wide range of clients, from individuals and small businesses to some of the largest companies and banks in the United States, frequently select Connolly to represent them in federal and state courts, and before multiple agencies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the U.S. Department of Justice. Connolly was selected as an “Up & Coming Lawyer” honoree by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2017. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, and Energy Bar Association as well as a member of the 2016-17 class of the Boston Bar Association’s Public Interest Leadership Program, which promotes civic engagement and public service by advancing the leadership role of lawyers in service to their communities. Connolly earned his law degree from Northwestern University, cum laude, and his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University.

Brian K. Lee is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department and focuses his practice on complex civil disputes, with an emphasis on products liability and toxic tort litigation. He represents clients in cases both as local and national counsel, managing litigation in jurisdictions across the country. In addition, Lee advises clients in a variety of complex commercial and financial disputes, focusing on contract disputes, business torts, and employment issues. He is actively involved in the firm’s pro bono efforts. Lee has represented foster children in a class action lawsuit seeking to reform the state’s child welfare system, parents in a public school system against a local charter school, and a veteran seeking to obtain disability benefits. Lee earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.

Derek Roller is a partner in Nutter’s Intellectual Property Department. Clients rely on Roller to help them navigate through patent and trademark application preparation and prosecution, as well as more specialized procedures, such as inter partes review, reexamination, and litigation. Roller is also well-versed in a variety of aspects of IP law, including strategic portfolio planning, preparing opinions on patent infringement and validity, as well as conducting freedom to operate and inventorship studies. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Boston Bar Association, as well as a member and 2017 Pro Bono Committee co-chair for the Boston Patent Law Association. Roller is a graduate of Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and Boston College Law School.

Matthew H. Snell is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Department. His practice is focused on land use, permitting, and environmental compliance, with a concentration in state and local permitting matters, environmental enforcement, and real estate transactions. Snell has significant experience practicing in front of local, state, and federal boards and agencies in matters involving zoning and land use, regulatory permitting and enforcement matters, and the development of contaminated properties. Snell is a member of the Boston Bar Association, NAIOP, the Environmental Business Council, and the Licensed Site Professional Association. He earned his law degree from New England Law, magna cum laude, and his undergraduate degree from Excelsior College. Prior to entering the legal profession, he was a geologist and environmental scientist with ENSR Corporation and Foster Wheeler Environmental Corporation.
