Nutter announced today that the attorneys and staff of Hartog Baer, a California full-service trusts and estates law firm, are joining Nutter’s West Coast office. The addition of Hartog Baer’s leading California practice adds to Nutter’s nationally recognized Private Client Department and makes it one of the nation’s largest bi-coastal private wealth and estate planning practices.

The nine attorneys joining Nutter include John A. Hartog, David W. Baer, Kevin P. O’Brien, Christopher D. Jew, Anthony G. Matricciani, Mary T. Nguyen, Amanda E. Sherwood, David Yu, and Ana M. Allec. The attorneys will continue to operate out of their current Orinda, Calif., office in Contra Costa County.

“The addition of these talented attorneys to Nutter’s Private Client Department strengthens one of our most robust and fastest-growing groups, while meaningfully expanding our footprint on the West Coast,” said Michael E. Scott, co-managing partner at Nutter. “As the firm continues to grow, we’re seeing more attorneys drawn to Nutter’s entrepreneurial and collaborative model - it sets us apart.”

“Joining Nutter was a clear and compelling choice,” said John Hartog, Principal at Hartog Baer. “We’re united by a deep commitment to personalized service, outstanding legal counsel, and a culture grounded in respect—for both clients and colleagues.”

David Baer, also a Principal at Hartog Baer, added: “We value that Nutter is a firm with national reach and an unwavering focus on client service. We’re excited to join such a highly respected firm and contribute to its full-service Private Client Department.”

In addition to the nine attorneys, Kysen B. Kuo, Jody R. Schnell, Katherine Hauser, Brigette S. Warren, and Helen Wood will join the firm as paralegals.

“John and Dave have built a premier team of leading specialists, and we are proud to welcome them to Nutter’s West Coast practice,” said Liam T. O’Connell, co-managing partner at Nutter. “Their record of success and sterling reputation sets them apart in the California legal community and will further strengthen the reach and impact of our Private Client Department.”

Expanded to a total of 40 attorneys, Nutter now has one of the largest bi-coastal private wealth, estate planning, and trust litigation practices in the country. This year, Chambers and Partners awarded Nutter’s Private Client Department its Band 1 ranking.

Clients turn to Nutter's Private Client Department to advise on, prepare for, and implement all aspects of estate planning, estate administration, and trust administration. Nutter’s cross-disciplinary team works closely with clients and advisors to develop personalized strategies to meet each client’s goals and objectives.

The expansion of Nutter’s West Coast practice marks another step in the firm’s growing national footprint and the continued development of key practice areas. In addition to expanding its West Coast Office, Nutter simultaneously announced the addition of three attorneys focused on real estate and litigation in its New York Office. Over the past three years, the firm has welcomed 25 new partners and attorneys—more than half of whom joined from AmLaw 100 firms.
