There have been an increasing frequency of data breaches and cybersecurity threats to businesses of all types and sizes. While most of the focus has been on actions by hackers and thieves from outside the company (and even outside the country), breaches most commonly result from the inside – from the company’s own employees. These breaches are sometimes intentional and occasionally malicious, but often they’re just the product of negligence. Regardless of the reason, employers can and must take steps to minimize this risk.

On Wednesday, December 13, Nutter is hosting a Labor, Employment and Benefits Breakfast Briefing, where Seth Berman, leader of Nutter’s Privacy and Data Security practice group, will share practical tips regarding the role of HR in mitigating these cybersecurity threats from within. Practical tips will include a discussion of some of the tools available to employers, including data privacy policies, non-disclosure agreements, non-competes, and security initiatives.
