Overview

Sara Lonks Wong is a partner in Nutter’s Litigation Department. She focuses her practice on business litigation, intellectual property litigation (with particular interest in copyright and trademark law), complex commercial litigation, and product liability defense.

A variety of clients rely on Sara’s counsel, strategic thinking, oral advocacy skills, and writing skills in connection with contemplated litigation, threatened litigation, and the litigation lifecycle, including fact discovery, expert discovery, and trial. Both inside and outside the courtroom, Sara has successfully defended clients in various industries, including insurance companies, banks, pharmaceutical companies, charitable corporations, publishers, and media companies.

Sara also regularly contributes to Nutter’s BLS Blog, through which she reports on recent developments in the Massachusetts state court’s Business Litigation Session.

  • Defending leading provider of private passenger automobile insurance in putative class actions involving issues of third-party coverage.
  • Defending equipment supplier against alleged copyright infringement claims.
  • Representing affiliated companies in music industry and their president involving, among other things, intellectual property issues.
  • Representing various pharmaceutical companies in patent infringement litigation.
  • Representing fiduciaries in probate court litigation.
  • Represented leading technology company that faced claims concerning third-party sales of alleged counterfeit cashmere products on its platform.
  • Advised leading insurance company facing threatened claims of tortious interference, aiding and abetting breach of fiduciary duty, unfair competition, deceptive and unfair business acts and practices under Massachusetts statutory law, respondeat superior, violation of the federal Defend Trade Secrets Act, misappropriation of trade secrets and other confidential information, and civil conspiracy.
  • Defended banks in overdraft fee putative class actions involving breach of contract claims and alleged deceptive and unfair business acts and practices under Massachusetts statutory law.
  • Defended a bank in putative class action involving pass through of fees.

Sara also has an active pro bono practice. Sara is committed to Nutter’s longstanding legacy of pro bono representation and commitment to civic and charitable engagement. Sara has advised clients in immigration, family law, education, asylum, and landlord-tenant housing matters.

Prior to joining Nutter, Sara was a litigation associate at a major international law firm headquartered in New York, New York. She assumed lead roles on various case teams including those representing a publisher in federal court litigation involving trademark infringement, copyright ownership, and breach of contract issues as well as a global media company in federal court litigation involving various claims, including fraud and breach of contract. Sara also served as a key member of the trial teams securing three consecutive defense jury verdicts for a pharmaceutical conglomerate.

Before that, Sara served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Bruce M. Selya on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Sara also gained legal experience as a student attorney at Boston College Legal Services LAB, where she represented and counseled clients in family and housing matters.

During law school, Sara served as executive editor of the Uniform Commercial Code Reporter-Digest.
