Nutter is pleased to announce that Kenneth K. Yoon has joined the Firm as a partner in the Tax Department. Based in the New York office, Yoon has extensive experience advising corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, individuals, and trusts on the tax aspects of a broad range of complex domestic and international matters, including mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs and divestitures, securities offerings, bank lending and borrowing, investment funds, real estate, executive compensation, and private wealth planning.

“Tax is a core component of our transactions teams. Addressing tax considerations early in the deal process is essential to unlocking value, minimizing risk, and optimizing transaction structures for our clients,” said Michael Scott, Nutter’s co-managing partner. “Nutter is committed to investing in top-tier talent and Ken’s addition reflects the Firm’s commitment to providing clients nationwide with best-in-class legal counsel.”

Yoon’s arrival follows Nutter’s recent significant expansion in the Firm’s core practice areas of private client, real estate, land use, and litigation, with 13 new attorneys based in New York, Honolulu, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Yoon has served as the tax partner in charge in a variety of multi-billion dollar domestic and international matters, including mergers, bankruptcies, IPO’s and financing transactions, and has advised clients on inbound and outbound international investment, including Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. He has also represented technology and emerging companies in such matters as strategic planning, employment and software development agreements, financing, and mergers and acquisitions.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ken to our team. Ken is a respected leader in tax law whose deep expertise in transactional work and international tax law significantly strengthens our capabilities to serve clients in an increasingly complex global tax environment,’’ said Melissa Sampson McMorrow, chair of Nutter’s Tax Department.

Yoon has lectured on taxation and e-commerce at New York University, the International Tax Institute, the Tax Executives Institute, the China Institute, the New York Software Industry Association, and other conferences. He has served on the Tax Committee of the Partnership for New York, and on the Business Tax Committee of the New York City Bar Association. Yoon has served for many years on the board of directors of the International Tax Institute, the Asian American Bar Association of New York, the Asian American Law Fund of New York, and the Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Center for International Legal Studies.

Prior to joining Nutter, Yoon served as a tax partner and member of the management committee at an international law firm in New York. He earned his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, his M.B.A., with distinction, from New York University Stern School of Business, his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, and his B.A., with honors, from Harvard University.

Nutter’s Tax Department provides a full range of income tax, executive compensation, employee benefits, estate and gift tax, and tax dispute services to a broad array of domestic and multinational corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, tax-exempt organizations, and individuals. The firm’s attorneys ensure that clients receive timely and creative solutions that allow them to plan for and control the tax consequences of their business and investment transactions.
