Ritika Bhakhri, an associate in Nutter’s Litigation Department, has been named a recipient of the inaugural Mary K. Ryan Achievement in Pro Bono Award. This accolade recognizes individuals who embody former Nutter partner Mary Ryan’s legacy as a dedicated advocate and champion of legal aid and pro bono work.

Since joining Nutter, Ritika has sought out opportunities for pro bono representation and civic involvement. She worked to secure lawful permanent residency for four siblings who were neglected and abandoned in their home country and fled to the United States after facing threats of gang violence. Ritika has also worked on five other Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) cases during her time at Nutter and was recognized as the 2021 “Boston Pro Bono Associate of the Year” by the organization. Additionally, Ritika serves on the board of directors of Citizens for Juvenile Justice (CFJJ), which advocates for statewide systemic reform to achieve equitable youth justice. Her other pro bono work includes advocating for a prisoner’s rights and assisting pro se litigants with their appeals.

Ritika and the other honorees will be recognized at “Voices of the Bar,” the BBA’s Annual Meeting, on November 14.
