Mariel Smith Honored as a 2026 Mary K. Ryan Achievement in Pro Bono Award Recipient by the Boston Bar Association

Mariel Smith, an associate in Nutter’s Litigation Department, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Mary K. Ryan Achievement in Pro Bono Award by the Boston Bar Association. The award recognizes attorneys who embody former Nutter partner Mary Ryan's legacy as a dedicated advocate and champion of legal aid and pro bono work.

Mariel maintains an active pro bono practice focused on immigration, affordable housing, and other critical issues, which she has built alongside a commercial litigation practice representing clients in business, real estate, land use and zoning, and construction disputes. Earlier this year, Mariel was named a 2026 “Up & Coming Lawyer” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in recognition of her professional achievements and exceptional civic and community engagement.

Mariel and her fellow honorees will be recognized at Spirit of the Bar on September 24.
