Mary Ryan, a partner in Nutter’s Litigation Department, was elected to the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association (ABA). The 43-member Board of Governors has the authority to act and speak for the ABA, consistent with previous action of the House of Delegates, when the House is not in session. The Board oversees the general operation of the ABA and develops specific plans of action. Mary’s term will conclude at the ABA’s 2023 Annual Meeting.

Mary is a longtime active member of the ABA. Previously, she served as a member of the ABA House of Delegates and the ABA Commission on Immigration. From August 2014 to August 2019, Mary co-chaired the ABA’s Working Group on Unaccompanied Minor Immigrants, a presidential initiative to provide more pro bono assistance to children in the immigration system without lawyers. She is a past chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono & Public Service and the ABA Standing Committee on Delivery of Legal Services, a past member of the ABA Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants, and has been active with the ABA Litigation Section’s Environmental Litigation Committee.
