Nutter today announced that Jared J. Eigerman, a land use attorney with extensive public- and private-sector experience across zoning, permitting, and real estate development, has joined the firm as of counsel, resident in the Boston office. With 25 years of private practice experience, Eigerman brings both extensive expertise in City of Boston and Massachusetts permitting and a unique perspective informed by his training as a city planner and his experience at the City & County of San Francisco’s land use legal office.

“Our clients pursue complex developments that require a thoughtful, forward-looking approach to planning, zoning, and permitting,” said Nutter Co-Managing Partner Michael Scott. “Jared’s experience across all three areas, combined with his depth of experience in permitting a mix of residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects in Boston and surrounding communities, is exactly what is needed at a time when local permitting is more complex than ever. We are excited to add his perspective and expertise to our already deep real estate bench.”

Eigerman advises on large-scale real estate developments across urban, waterfront, and industrial contexts, including life sciences conversions, mixed-use and multifamily projects, hospitality, marina and maritime uses, and long-term public–private ground leases. Recent successfully permitted Boston projects currently under construction include 20-22 Drydock (a 319,000 square foot, seven-story state-of-the-art research and development facility) and Lyra at 252-264 Huntington Ave (a 34-story mixed-use housing and retail building). Other approved and now completed projects include:  315 on A Apartments (a 48-unit condo building), The Eddy (a 258-unit apartment building in East Boston), Hampton Inn Boston Seaport District (670 Summer Street), and Charlestown Labs (a 166,000 square foot lab building).

“Nutter’s real estate practice stands out for its depth of experience, strong client relationships, and continued growth,” said Eigerman. “The firm’s entrepreneurial culture and emphasis on creative problem-solving align closely with how I practice, and I am excited to bring Nutter’s platform and resources to bear for my clients.”

During his tenure as Deputy City Attorney in San Francisco and later in private practice, Eigerman represented clients in CEQA litigation and eminent domain matters and advised on complex urban infill and mixed-use developments. His work in California includes historic rehabilitations as well as the 1,900-unit Trinity Plaza project in San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood, public trust tidelands projects, and the LEED-ND Station Park Green development in the City of San Mateo.

Eigerman earned his J.D. from the University of California, College of the Law, San Francisco, his Master’s in City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College. Prior to joining Nutter, he was of counsel at Reuben, Junius & Rose, LLP.  Eigerman is active in his hometown of Newburyport, where he is past president of the City Council and a current member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Marianne Ajemian, chair of Nutter’s Real Estate Department, added: “Jared shares our team’s commitment to working collaboratively with clients to navigate regulatory processes, build community and government support, and move complex projects forward. Successfully bringing a project from concept to approval requires sound judgment and a strong instinct for how cities work – qualities Jared has demonstrated throughout his career.”

Nutter’s Real Estate Department is nationally and regionally recognized for its work across all asset classes and project types. Backed by a Band 1 Chambers ranking, the group advises clients throughout the full development lifecycle, from land acquisition and permitting to financing, construction, and leasing. In 2024 alone, Nutter attorneys advised on more than 330 acquisitions and dispositions, secured approvals for more than 200 developments, negotiated over 260 leases, and closed 180 real estate loans. The team represents owners, developers, institutional investors, lenders, and public entities on complex transactions, financing, permitting, land use, and environmental matters.
