Ian Roffman, chair of Nutter’s Securities Enforcement and Litigation practice group, recently served on the Boston Bar Association’s (BBA) Judicial Independence Working Group. On August 15, 2019, the BBA released its report, Judicial Independence: Promoting Justice and Maintaining Democracy. Over a six-month period, beginning in January 2019, the report was drafted by a committee of practitioners, retired judges, and academics. The BBA believes the report will offer guidance to lawyers, bar associations, judges, the courts, and the public, in understanding the history and importance of judicial independence, as well as existing mechanisms for promoting judicial accountability.
