Nutter Elects New Partners to its Intellectual Property, Litigation and Trusts and Estates Practices

Nutter announced today that Rory P. Pheiffer, Matthew P. Ritchie and Johanna Wise Sullivan have been elected partners.

Rory P. Pheiffer handles a broad spectrum of intellectual property issues, including domestic and international patent prosecution, patent litigation, patent opinion and clearance matters, domestic and international trademark prosecution and enforcement, and technology licensing matters. As a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice, Rory works with clients of all sizes, from Fortune 100 companies to start-up ventures. He also dedicates time to start-up ventures through his volunteer work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Venture Mentoring Services where he hosts monthly office hours and advises emerging companies on IP issues. Rory is currently the Vice President of the Boston Patent Law Association. He received his J.D., with distinction, from Suffolk University Law School, and his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Matthew P. Ritchie focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, including commercial disputes and business torts, unfair and deceptive trade practice claims (G.L. c. 93A), shareholder disputes, and insurance and indemnity related matters. A member of the firm’s Litigation practice, Matt’s civil litigation experience includes a wide range of matters involving contracts, drug and medical device sales and marketing, distributor terminations, insurance and indemnification, corporate governance, shareholder litigation, securities, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate transactions. Matt has also represented corporate and individual clients before a variety of state and federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Boston College Law School, and his B.A., with highest honors, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Johanna Wise Sullivan advises individuals and families in all aspects of estate and tax planning, and estate and trust administration. A member of the firm’s Trusts & Estates practice, her estate planning practice ranges from preparing relatively simple estate plans for young families to developing complex plans for high net worth individuals that incorporate sophisticated strategies to minimize estate and gift taxes and transfer wealth to the next generation. Johanna counsels fiduciaries and beneficiaries in connection with estate and trust administration, including post-mortem planning and tax considerations, fiduciary obligations, the probate process, preparation of estate tax returns, and representation in estate tax audits. She also assists private foundations with operation and compliance matters, and advises individuals on techniques for structuring charitable gifts. She earned her J.D. from Boston College Law School and her B.A., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
