Melissa Sampson McMorrow, a member of the firm’s Tax practice, was quoted in “IRS Embrace of Tax-Exempt RHIO Model Provides Opportunities for Growth, Success” in BNA’s Health Law Reporter on November 5. The article discusses a decision earlier this year by the Internal Revenue Service to allow health information organizations to operate in appropriate cases as tax-exempt organizations. Melissa said, “Organizations with exemption applications that are still awaiting IRS approval may want to consider supplementing their application to clarify that the organization, in addition to promoting health, should qualify for exemption because it has the additional exempt purpose of lessening the burdens of government.’’
