Nutter was honored by the Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC) with the 2017 EBC James D.P. Farrell Award for Brownfields Project of the Year for its work as part of the team of the XSS Hotels Brownfields Project, along with 12 other team members, including the U.S. EPA and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The award was granted in recognition of the multi-faceted, 20 year collaborative remediation and transformation of the Chelsea, Massachusetts former Lawrence Metal Forming Company from an urban Brownfield site into a XSS Hotels Facility. Nutter attorney Gary Gill-Austern was a member of the team recognized for their work on this project.

The EBC James D.P. Farrell Award for Brownfields Project of the Year is awarded to a Brownfields project in which an EBC member organization has had significant involvement and that serves as an example of excellence notwithstanding the social, economic, technical, and institutional challenges imposed. Each year, the Environmental Business Council of New England recognizes companies, organizations, and individuals for outstanding environmental and energy accomplishments in the promotion of a sustainable, clean environment through the EBEE Awards.

The Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC) was established in 1990 by environmental and energy company executives who began meeting on a regular basis to exchange ideas and share experiences. The EBC was the first organization in the United States established to support and foster the development of the environmental industry. The goal of the EBC is to enhance business and job growth of both established and emerging environmental and energy businesses.
