David Rubin, a member of the firm’s Labor, Employment and Benefits practice group, was quoted in “Cambridge sweeps away outsourcing of hotel housekeepers” in the Boston Herald on September 30, 2011. The article discusses a controversial regulation approved by the Cambridge License Commission, which prohibits hotels from contracting out their housekeeping work.

The new regulation, which is the first in the nation, takes direct aim at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge. In 2009, the Hyatt along with two other local Hyatt properties laid off 98 housekeepers causing Cambridge elected officials and unions to cry foul since the housekeepers trained their replacements. David was asked whether the ordinance could withstand a legal challenge and noted that when companies contract out workers, they are not absolved of responsibility. "This regulation could definitely be challenged from a number of fronts," he said.
