Writing for Morningstar, Natalie Choate Authors Article on Wealth Sharing Strategies
Print PDFNatalie Choate, a member of Nutter’s Private Client Department, penned an article titled, “3 Strategies to Consider When Sole Beneficiaries Want to Share the Wealth.” She examines an example of whether or not an IRA which was left solely to one niece should be shared equally with other family members.
According to Natalie, what seems like an easy fix has to clear several hurdles, including the IRA administrator's policies, income tax consequences, transfer tax consequences, and the terms of the decedent’s will. Natalie concludes, “You can fix these situations, but there is no one path that is simple, cheap, and tax-advantaged.”
