Nutter’s long-time client, South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp. (SSTTDC), the local redevelopment authority for the former Naval Air Station South Weymouth, and the U.S. Navy signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement today to transfer to SSTTDC the remaining land at the former Base. The deal to purchase approximately 681 acres of land from the Navy, situated in the Towns of Abington, Rockland and Weymouth, Massachusetts, allows for the next phase of construction of the SouthField development, a planned community of approximately 1,360 acres of land. When fully constructed, SouthField will include up to 2,855 residences, 2 million square feet of commercial space, a golf course, a sports and recreation complex, other active and passive recreational facilities and improved infrastructure, including an east-west parkway. The transaction with the Navy is expected to close on December 15, 2011.

The Boston Globe reports on the deal’s history in its article “Deal reached on air base land.” To view the full article, click here.
