Lesley University has appointed Michael E. Mooney to its Board of Trustees. Mooney joins the board at an important milestone for the university – its 100 year anniversary. Lesley University has completed a number of major initiatives in the past few years, including a $136 million gift from the charitable trust of former trustee Frank C. Doble; a groundbreaking partnership between Lesley and the Episcopal Divinity School toward a shared campus on Brattle Street; and facility improvements that included the construction of new residence halls and a renewed student center.

“Lesley University has proven that it is a leader in higher education, preparing students for careers that strengthen the fabric of our communities,” Mooney said. “It’s an honor to join a leadership team that has been so successful in furthering such an important mission.”

Mooney, the managing partner at Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP, is active in many business, civic and charitable organizations in Greater Boston. He is a director of Jobs for Massachusetts, an executive leadership organization of CEOs from prominent Boston businesses and serves as chair of the Board of Directors of A Better City and is a former chair of its Membership Development Committee.

Mooney is a founding co-chair of the United Way’s Lawyers Leadership Breakfast and for the past several years has been a co-chair of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund Annual Dinner sponsored by the Catholic Charities. He is the founding chairman of the Boston Bar Association Summer Jobs Program and co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s 2008 Diversity and Leadership Task Force.
