David C. Henderson Appointed to Massachusetts IOLTA Committee

David C. Henderson, a partner in Nutter’s Litigation Department and a member of the firm’s Labor, Employment and Benefits practice group, has been appointed by the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) to the Massachusetts Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Committee. David’s three-year term is effective as of January 1, 2017.

IOLTA is a program mandated by the SJC that requires lawyers and law firms to establish interest-bearing accounts for client deposits that are nominal in amount or held only for a short period of time. The interest earned from the IOLTA accounts then is used to support law-related public service programs and fund improvements in the administration of justice and delivery of legal service to low-income clients.

The IOLTA Committee performs its work by distributing the funds among three charitable entities: The Boston Bar Foundation, The Massachusetts Bar Foundation, and The Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation. The three entities, in turn, distribute the funds to legal aid offices, organizations, and projects. The IOLTA program thus helps legal services programs make tangible and positive differences in the lives of families and individuals living in poverty.
