Tom Curry, a partner in Nutter’s Corporate and Transactions Department and co-leader of the firm’s Banking and Financial Services group, commented on proposals affecting the financial technology industry in Politico. In the article, “Federal Regulators Face Backlash on Fintech Proposals,” Tom said that there is a lot of concern over the consumer aspects of the special purpose national bank charter. “A national bank is going to be supervised, so there is going to be a window into whether they're engaging in unfair or deceptive practices," Tom pointed out, adding that anyone receiving the charter would be subject to federal exams and supervision.
