Tom Curry, a partner in Nutter’s Corporate and Transactions Department and a co-leader of the firm’s Banking and Financial Services group, wrote an article for Banker & Tradesman which examined large technical firms and financial technology (Fintech) companies obtaining bank charters. In the article, “Big Tech is Knocking at Banking’s Door,” Tom highlighted the dangers of mixing banking and commerce and touched upon the concerns brought forward by opponents, including giving U.S. “Big Tech giants” such as Facebook and Google banking opportunities. He pointed out there is the potential for closer regulatory scrutiny or processing delays in light of one e-commerce company’s application.
