John Loughnane Contributes Guest Blog Post on Mediation Skills for MWIPrint PDF
John G. Loughnane, a partner in Nutter’s Business Department, authored a guest blog post “Using Mediation Skills Outside of Mediation,” on MWI’s Mediation and Negotiation blog. In the post, John shares his experience as an examiner in a chapter 11 bankruptcy case in which his mediation skills proved useful in finding a solution to a thorny set of issues.
John notes that well developed mediation skills have application in many settings outside of formal mediation. While drawing on such skills serving as an examiner with the task of supervising the sale of an operating company’s assets in chapter 11, he points out that being conscious of the using the right tools in the right circumstance is critical. According to John, his mediation training enabled a disparate group of parties to engage in a process that treated people fairly and respectfully and resulted in a solution that was both commercially and judicially appropriate for the participants.
