Paul Cronin, a partner in Nutter’s Litigation and Intellectual Property Departments and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice group, commented on the Supreme Court’s ruling in TC Heartland v. Kraft in World Intellectual Property Review. In the article, “TC Heartland v Kraft Foods: SCOTUS deals ‘staggering blow’ to NPEs,” Paul analyzes the decision, which tightened the rules on where patent lawsuits can be filed, and notes that the ruling deals a blow to non-practicing entities (NPEs).

According to Paul, “This seismic shift in venue practice effectively closes the doors to patent infringement hotbeds like the Eastern District of Texas, deals a severe blow to NPEs, or ‘patent trolls’, and shifts home court advantage to companies accused of patent infringement.”
