Ron Cahill Weighs In on USPTO Director Candidates in Law360

Ronald E. Cahill, partner and chair of Nutter’s Intellectual Property Litigation practice group, commented on possible candidates to replace Michelle Lee as the new Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in Law360. In the article, “A Look At Some Potential Picks For USPTO Director,” Ron noted that that there is often tension between the pharmaceutical industry, which generally wants patents to be strong and enforceable, and the high-tech industry, which is concerned about patent trolls and wants patents to be easier to challenge. According to Ron, Philip Johnson has a track record of “excelling in pretty much everything he does” and "when you hear him talk about patent quality, he means it.”
