Overview
Laura Marsell is an associate in Nutter’s Tax Department. Clients rely on Laura to advise them on a variety of international, federal, state, and local tax matters.
Laura’s practice includes counselling businesses on the tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations, including tax laws governing equity compensation and change in control agreements. She advises charitable and nonprofit organizations on the application for tax-exempt status, reinstatement of revoked tax-exempt status, and on other issues related to tax-exempt and nonprofit status, including formation, governance, compliance, and lobbying. Laura has experience handling tax controversies before the Internal Revenue Service and state tax authorities. She also advises clients on issues related to qualified retirement plans.
Prior to joining Nutter, Laura was a senior tax associate in the mergers and acquisitions group of an audit, tax, and consulting firm. Previously, she gained legal experience as an intern in the Litigation Department of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and as an intern at a private law firm in Amherst, MA.
