Nutter expands Business Department with addition of new partner

With expertise in restructuring, John Loughnane is eighth partner-level lawyer to join firm since June

Nutter announced today that John G. Loughnane has joined the firm as partner in its Business Department, where he will focus on general corporate, business restructuring, and technology licensing matters.

Loughnane represents well established clients dealing with the financial distress of other parties as well as emerging companies seeking to grow their business, protect their technology and structure their financing arrangements. He has also represented purchasers of assets, restructuring companies, bankruptcy trustees and other fiduciaries such as assignees for the benefit of creditors. Loughnane has advised clients in a variety of industries including life sciences and other technology, health care, professional services, retail, real estate and manufacturing.

“John brings to Nutter more than 20 years of broad client experience in complex business-related matters, with a particular expertise in restructuring and related issues,” said Deborah J. Manus, co-managing partner of Nutter. “His talent in identifying and executing his clients’ strategic objectives during difficult transitions, as well as protecting their rights in times of financial distress, will greatly benefit our clients.”

Prior to joining Nutter, Loughnane served as Regional Corporate Counsel (North America) for Parametric Technology Corporation and as a partner at a national law firm in Boston. He is co-chair of the Bankruptcy Section for the Boston Bar Association and co-chair of the Technology & Intellectual Property Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Turnaround Management Association – Northeast Chapter and a member of the Licensing Executives Society and MIT Enterprise Forum.

An active member of the community, John is a corporate trustee of the Trustees of Reservations, a member of the Board of Directors of the Holy Cross Lawyers Association, and a board member of the George Washington University Law Alumni Association. He is a past president of the Holy Cross Club of Boston and a volunteer and leader for various youth organizations.

Loughnane received a J.D. with honors from George Washington University Law School and an A.B. from College of Holy Cross. He served as a law clerk for the Honorable Ronald R. Lagueux of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
