Paul J. Ayoub is a partner in the Real Estate and Finance Department, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and a member of the Commercial Finance and Land Use, Permitting and Development practice groups. Paul has thirty years of experience in representing clients in the finance and development of commercial real estate projects. He also advises clients in the areas of regulatory enforcement and compliance.

Paul has extensive experience representing local and national lending institutions, as well as private lenders in construction, permanent and mezzanine loans throughout the country. Included in this experience are syndicated loans and intercreditor agreements. Paul advises lenders on financing structure alternatives, including preferred equity, joint venture and partnership arrangements. He also has vast experience representing lenders in complex debt reorganizations.

In addition, Paul represents developers in the acquisition, sale, permitting, leasing and development of all property types. His practice encompasses, among other things, downtown office buildings, suburban office parks, hotels, health care institutions, retail complexes, industrial properties, apartment and condominium complexes, and not-for-profit uses. He has appeared before numerous municipal permitting boards throughout the Commonwealth, as well as many state agencies in connection with a wide range of development projects.

Paul is a member of the Board of Directors of the Real Estate Finance Association and has served as co-chair of the Real Estate Finance and Workout/Foreclosure Committee of the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Real Estate Section.

Paul is also involved in several civic and charitable organizations, including a member of the Board of Directors of both St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and ALSAC, the fundraising organization that supports St. Jude, for which he serves as a Board Vice-Chair. Locally, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and serves as Secretary and General Counsel as well as co-chair of the Chamber’s Development Committee. He is a member of the Board of Incorporators of the Boston Local Development Corporation. Additionally, he is a Trustee of Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts, serving as Chair of its Building Committee. Paul also has served as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of The Park School in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Prior to his career as an attorney, Paul worked in Massachusetts state government in various capacities, including as assistant press secretary to the Governor.

During law school, Paul was editor-in-chief of the Boston College International and Comparative Law Review.
