Natalie Choate, a member of the firm’s Trusts and Estates practice group, was quoted in “Five rules for Inherited IRAs” in Forbes Investment Guide on June 28. Natalie discusses how employer plans are different for inherited IRAs. She notes that by federal law the money in the 401(k) goes to a spouse but some employer plans will allow the funds to go straight to the children if the spouse is dead and there isn’t a beneficiary form on file. These beneficiaries should ask the employer to transfer the money into an inherited IRA.
