Ali Holdway is an associate in Nutter’s Litigation Department. Clients rely on her experience in a wide variety of areas, including white collar defense and government investigations, employment and non-compete law, products liability defense, and general commercial litigation. She assists clients at all stages of litigation, including fact investigation, discovery, dispositive motions, pre-trial motions, and appellate advocacy.

Ali is committed to providing pro bono representation. She has represented clients in immigration proceedings and before the Department of Unemployment Assistance. She regularly staffs a walk-in civil appeals clinic for unrepresented litigants seeking appellate advice. In addition, she assisted in preparing an amicus brief in Guardianship of V.V., 470 Mass. 590 (2015), arguing in support of parents’ right to counsel in guardianship proceedings.

  • Successfully moved to dismiss tortious interference and Chapter 93A claims in contract dispute

  • Advised client on its sick time policy with respect to Massachusetts’ new sick time law

  • Represented minors in immigration proceedings before the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court and the United States Immigration Court

Ali also serves as a mentor through the Boston Lawyers Group (BLG) Mentor Program, and she coaches a mock trial team comprised of college students participating in the BLG’s summer legal internship program. Ali particularly enjoys reading with her first grade reading buddy through Nutter’s Literacy Team.

Prior to joining Nutter, Ali served as a fellow in the Appeals Division of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Boston, where she appeared before the Massachusetts Appeals Court on behalf of the Commonwealth as a Special Assistant District Attorney. She served as a legal intern at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York and the New York County District Attorney’s Office in Manhattan.

During law school, Ali won first place, best final and preliminary rounds oralist, and third best government-side brief in the 2013 John J. Gibbons Criminal Procedure Moot Court Competition. The following year, Ali coached a moot court team at the same competition. Ali remains connected to NYU School of Law’s Moot Court Board as a member of its Alumni Committee. In addition, she received NYU School of Law’s Pro Bono Service Award for completing over 50 hours of pro bono work.

Prior to law school, Ali worked as a litigation paralegal at an international law firm in New York.
